Rank and index monitoring for your sites
Rank and index monitoring is part of the Process automation service at Best Boost Partners. We set up a system that records daily positions by keyword, region and device, checks whether pages are indexed, and watches uptime, status codes and changes in titles, robots.txt and canonical tags. When something breaks, the system sends an alert to a messenger or by e-mail. You receive the code, a dashboard with history and a written set of alert rules.
What exactly does the monitoring check?
Positions
Positions are recorded every day for each keyword, by region and by device. The history is kept, so a drop can be tied to a date and compared with a release, a search update or a change in links.
Indexing
For a list of important pages the system checks whether each page is in the index. The check uses Google Search Console data and the signals of the page itself: status code, robots rules, meta robots, canonical tag.
Uptime and status codes
The monitoring requests pages on a schedule and records the response time and the status code. A page that starts returning an error or a redirect appears in an alert with its address and the time of the check.
Changes on pages
The system keeps the previous title, description, H1 and canonical tag of every page and compares them with the current ones. An edit that a developer or a plugin made without the SEO specialist knowing becomes visible the same day.
robots.txt and the sitemap
Every change in robots.txt is saved as a new version with the difference marked. The sitemap is checked for availability and for pages that return errors or are closed to indexing.
Alerts
Every check has a rule: what counts as a problem and who has to learn about it. Urgent alerts go to a messenger or e-mail at once, the rest are gathered into a daily summary.
What do you get from rank and index monitoring?
- A monitoring system deployed on your server or account and running on a schedule.
- A database with the history of positions, index status and changes on pages.
- A dashboard or table where positions and technical checks are seen side by side.
- A written list of alert rules with thresholds and recipients.
- Instructions on how to add a site, a keyword list, a region or a new check.
When is rank and index monitoring needed?
- Developers release changes often, and the SEO settings of pages are sometimes overwritten without warning.
- You have many sites or one large site, and a manual check takes a specialist a working day.
- A fall in traffic was once noticed late, and you want to learn about the cause on the day it appears.
- Positions are tracked in one tool and the technical state in another, and nobody compares the two.
Frequently asked questions
Why build our own monitoring when ready-made rank trackers exist?
If positions are all you need, a ready-made rank tracker is often enough, and we will say so. Your own monitoring is justified when positions, indexing and page changes have to be seen in one place, when the alert rules are specific to your project, or when the data has to flow into your reports. The system can also take positions from a tracker through its API instead of collecting them itself.
Where does the data on positions and indexing come from?
Positions come from the API of a rank tracker or from our own collection of search results: the choice depends on volume and budget. Index status is taken from Google Search Console through its API, within its quotas, and is supplemented by a direct check of the page. Every figure in the dashboard is shown with its source.
How do you keep the team from drowning in alerts?
Every alert has a threshold and a level of urgency that we agree with you in advance. A fall of one position on one keyword does not produce a message, while a closed robots.txt or an error on a key page does. Minor events are gathered into a daily summary, and repeated alerts about the same problem are grouped.
