Automated SEO reporting: dashboards and scheduled reports

Reporting is the part of the Process automation service in which Best Boost Partners sets up automated SEO reporting: dashboards and scheduled reports assembled from Google Search Console, Google Analytics, rank trackers and your team’s own tables. The team gets one source of numbers, and manual copying from several tools is no longer needed. You receive the data collection code, the dashboard, a description of every metric and a handover session.

What exactly do we build for reporting?

  1. Connecting the sources

We connect Google Search Console, Google Analytics, your rank tracker and the team’s tables through their APIs or exports. Data is loaded on a schedule into one store, and the report no longer depends on someone remembering to export a file.

  2. One store of numbers

All sources are brought into one database or spreadsheet with a shared calendar, shared page addresses and shared project names. The same figure looks the same in the weekly report, in the dashboard and in a presentation for a client.

  3. Metric definitions

For every figure it is written down where the figure comes from and how it is calculated: clicks from Google Search Console, sessions from Google Analytics, positions from the rank tracker. The reader of the report does not have to guess why two figures differ.

  4. Dashboards

A dashboard shows positions, clicks, traffic, conversions and the state of the work on one screen, with filters by project, section, region and period. We build it in the tool your team already uses, or choose a tool at the mapping stage.

  5. Scheduled reports

A weekly or monthly report is assembled and sent by e-mail or to a messenger without a person taking part. The specialist adds conclusions and next steps to figures that are already in place.

  6. Data quality checks

Before a report is sent, the system checks that every source has delivered data for the period. If a source is empty or a figure differs sharply from the previous period, the report is held back and the person responsible gets an alert.

What do you get from automated reporting?

  • A dashboard with access for the people you name.
  • A scheduled report that is assembled and sent automatically.
  • The data collection code in your repository and the data store on your account.
  • A metric dictionary: the source and the formula of every figure in the report.
  • Instructions on how to add a project, a source or a new figure.

When is automated reporting needed?

  • Preparing the monthly report takes a specialist a day or more of copying and formatting.
  • Figures in reports for different people do not agree, because each report is put together by hand from its own exports.
  • A manager wants to see the state of all projects on one screen without asking each specialist.
  • You report to your own clients, and each of them needs the same form of report.

Frequently asked questions

In which tool will the dashboard be built?

In the tool your team already uses, if it can take data from the store: a BI tool, a spreadsheet or a small internal web page. If there is no such tool yet, we propose one at the mapping stage and explain the choice. The data store is separate from the dashboard, so the display tool can be changed later without redoing the data collection.

What if the figures from different sources do not agree?

They rarely agree exactly, and that is normal: Google Search Console counts clicks in search, Google Analytics counts sessions on the site, and every rank tracker measures positions in its own way. We do not mix such figures into one. Every figure is shown with its source, and the metric dictionary explains the difference.

Can we change the report ourselves after the handover?

Yes. The documentation shows where the queries, the metric definitions and the report template are kept. Adding a project or a period filter can usually be done without a programmer, while a new data source needs a person who can work with an API.
