Website design with mobile layouts and a component library
Website design is a direction of the Design service at Best Boost Partners: the studio’s own designer draws the home page and the templates of inner pages for a company site, a store, a portal or a media project. When we also do the SEO, the layouts follow a structure that comes from keyword research, and they are handed over ready for development. You receive desktop and mobile layouts, a component library, exported images and a specification for developers.
What do we draw in a website design?
Home page and inner page templates
We draw the home page and one template for every page type: a service, a category, a product card, an article, contacts. The list of templates comes from the site structure, so no page type is left without a layout.
Grid, typography and colour
The grid sets the columns and spacing for every screen width. Typography is a short set of text styles for headings, body text and captions, and the palette names the colour of text, backgrounds, links and accents.
States of buttons and forms
Buttons, links, menus and form fields are drawn in normal, hover, pressed, disabled and error states. Form layouts include the messages a visitor sees after sending and after a mistake.
Desktop and mobile layouts
Every template is drawn for a desktop screen and for a phone, and for a tablet where the arrangement changes. In the mobile version we decide what happens to the menu, tables, filters and wide images.
Component library
The header, footer, cards, banners, tables and form blocks are collected into a library of components. A new page is later assembled from these parts in the same style.
Preparation for development
Layers and components are named, spacing follows one scale, and images are exported in the needed formats. The specification describes breakpoints, hover behaviour and what stays fixed when the page scrolls.
What do you get with a website design?
- Desktop and mobile layouts of the home page and of every inner page template, as source files.
- A component library and a UI kit: colours, text styles, buttons, form fields, cards and their states.
- Exported images, icons and a list of fonts with a note on the licences they need.
- A specification for developers with the grid, breakpoints, spacing and behaviour of elements.
When is a website design needed?
- You are building a new site and want the layouts drawn on the page structure before development begins.
- The site is moving to another platform, and the old design does not fit the new structure or the phone screen.
- The site has grown, its pages were drawn by different people at different times, and they share no components.
- Developers work from screenshots and guesses, because the site never had source layouts or a UI kit.
Frequently asked questions
Can you design a website that another team will develop?
Yes. Website design can be ordered separately from development. The layouts are handed over with a UI kit, exported images and a specification, so any team can build from them. The editor for the source files is agreed with you before the work starts, for example Figma.
How many page templates does a website design need?
The number of templates equals the number of page types, and the number of pages does not matter. A store with thousands of products still needs one product card template, one category template and a few service pages. We make the list of templates from the site structure and fix the list in the contract.
Why is a website design drawn after keyword research?
Keyword research shows which pages the site needs and what each page must answer. When the design is drawn first, the menu, the home page blocks and the templates often leave no place for these pages. If you order design without SEO, we draw on the structure you provide.
