Domain selection for a PBN network
Domain selection for a PBN network is the search for expired domains that have live backlinks and a clean history, and their check before purchase. Best Boost Partners does this work within the PBN networks service: we match each domain to the topic of the network, study its past in the Wayback Machine and in link indexes, and reject domains with spam or sanction signals. You receive a list of approved domains and a check sheet for each one.
What exactly do we check when selecting domains?
History in the Wayback Machine
We look through the saved copies of the domain from different years: what the site was, in which language, whether its topic changed. A domain that once carried a doorway, a link farm or content in an unrelated language is rejected.
Live backlinks
We take the backlinks of the domain from link indexes such as Ahrefs and Majestic and open the donor pages. Only links that still exist and stand on real pages are counted.
Topic match
The past topic of the domain and the topics of the sites linking to it have to suit the site we will build on it. A domain with backlinks from sports sites suits a site about sport and suits a site about finance poorly.
Spam and sanction signals
We check the anchor list for spam anchors and look for traces of earlier redirects and mass link selling. Separately we check whether pages of the domain are still in the index.
Registrars and registration data
Domains of one network are registered with different registrars, on different dates and with different registration data. WHOIS privacy is switched on where the domain zone allows it.
Domain zones and names
We use different domain zones and avoid names built on one pattern. The name has to suit the site that will stand on the domain.
What do you get from domain selection?
- A list of approved domains with the source of purchase and the price of each one.
- A check sheet for every domain: saved copies, backlinks, anchor list, topic and the conclusion.
- A list of rejected domains with the reason for each rejection.
- A table of registrars, registration dates and renewal dates for the register of the network.
- An export of the live backlinks of every approved domain from link indexes.
When is domain selection needed?
- You are building a new PBN network and need domains for it.
- A network site has dropped out of the index and needs a replacement domain.
- You have a list of expired domains and want an independent check before you pay.
- You are adding sites to the network, and the new domains must not gather at the same registrars and in the same zones.
Frequently asked questions
Why are expired domains used for a PBN network instead of new ones?
An expired domain with a clean history already has backlinks from other sites, so a site restored on it has weight from the first day. A new domain has neither links nor history, and a link from it is worth little until the site earns links of its own. New domains are still used in a network when no suitable expired domain exists for the topic.
What happens if a purchased domain turns out to be bad?
A domain that does not enter the index after the site is launched, or shows a problem missed during the check, is replaced with another one. The terms of replacement are written in the scope of the contract. The replaced domain and the reason for the replacement are noted in the register.
Can a PBN site be built on a domain from a different topic?
Yes, but links from such a site are worth less. When the old backlinks of a domain lead to a site on one topic and the new site writes about another, a search engine sees the mismatch. We accept a neighbouring topic and reject a domain whose past has nothing in common with the planned site.
