Drop domain search and analysis
Restoration and redirects for expired domains
Restoration and redirects are the final stage of the service “Drop domain search and analysis” at Best Boost Partners. We rebuild the old structure and content of a purchased domain from the archive, so that existing links land on live pages, or we set page-to-page 301 redirects to your main project. The stage is for owners who have bought a drop domain and want to use its links. You receive a working site or a redirect map, and a report on how search picks the domain up again.
What exactly do we do to restore a domain and set up redirects?
List of old URLs
We collect the addresses of the old site from the archive and from the link data. Addresses that still receive live links go to the top of the list.
Restoring the structure
The sections and addresses of the old site are recreated as they were, so that every external link opens a live page at the same address. Pages without links and without use are not restored.
Restoring the content
Texts are restored from the archive snapshots, or written anew on the same subject where the old text cannot be reused. A restored page has to answer what the referring page promises its reader.
Page-to-page 301 redirects
When the domain is redirected to the main project, each old page is sent to the page closest in meaning. Search engines often treat a mass redirect to the homepage as a missing page, and the links stop being counted.
Technical launch
We set up the hosting, the certificate, the sitemap and the server response codes, and add the domain to Google Search Console. For a PBN site the launch follows the footprint rules of the network.
Watching the indexing
After the launch we watch in Google Search Console and in the server logs how the search robot crawls the pages and which of them return to the index. Pages that stay outside the index are examined one by one.
What do you get after the restoration?
- A list of old URLs with the number of live links pointing to each.
- A restored site with the former addresses, or a redirect file ready for the server.
- A page-to-page redirect map: old address, new address and the reason for the match.
- A check of the response codes for every restored and redirected address.
- A report on indexing after the launch: which pages the robot crawled and which returned to the index.
When are restoration and redirects needed?
- You have bought a drop domain and want the links to it to open live pages again.
- You plan to join a drop domain to your main project through 301 redirects.
- You are launching a PBN site, and the domain has to look like a continuation of the former site.
- An earlier redirect to the homepage gave nothing, and you want to redo it page by page.
Frequently asked questions
Is it better to restore the site or to set a 301 redirect?
The choice depends on the task. A restored site suits a PBN or a new project on the domain, because the domain goes on living as a site. A 301 redirect suits the case when the drop domain is close in topic to the main project and its pages have counterparts there. The recommendation for each domain is recorded in the table of checked domains.
Why not redirect the whole domain to the homepage?
Because a link to an article about one subject then leads to a page about another. Search engines often treat such a redirect as a missing page, and the link stops being counted. A page-to-page redirect keeps the meaning of each link, which is why the map is drawn up address by address.
How soon does search accept a restored domain?
There is no exact term, and we do not promise one. The search robot finds a domain with live links through those links, and the index is restored page by page. We follow the process in Google Search Console and in the server logs and report what has already been indexed.
